Organisations such as SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and Mars One are all in a race to be the first to colonise Mars, with SpaceX founder, Elon Musk announcing plans for this as early as 2025! But what will Mars really be like? Nobody knows this for sure of course, but some facts about the red planet can help predict what Mars will be like and what humans will need to do to survive.
With a thin atmosphere made up of almost entirely carbon dioxide, no fresh water, freezing temperatures and no sign of life, Mars doesn’t pose the best environment for human life. However, there are ways to overcome these challenges and The Solar Centre has looked at what scientists, organisations and engineers are planning for life on Mars. From unique landing techniques to re-using theories that have worked on earth – survival could be possible.
Fast forward 20 years or so and Mars could be your new home and these posters inform us on how we’ll get to Mars and create the four basic needs for survival, Oxygen, Water, Warmth, and Food.
